Overview

The IMF SDMX 3.0 Connector provides a RESTful interface to retrieve structured economic and financial statistical data from the International Monetary Fund. It allows users to query availability metadata, dataset structures, and time series data using SDMX-standard dimensions. This connector is ideal for applications focused on economic dashboards, global monitoring, financial analysis, and research tools.

Integration Overview

The IMF SDMX Connector offers the following integration point to query dataset structure metadata:

  • Get Structure by Type: Retrieve detailed structure definitions such as dataflows, datastructures, code lists, and concepts maintained by a specific agency.

Detailed Integration Documentation

Get Structure by Type

Operation ID get-structure-structuretype-agencyid
Purpose Retrieves structural metadata (e.g., codelists, concepts, datastructures) of a specific type maintained by the provided agency.
Input Details
  • Query Parameter: structureType (required, string) – Type of structure to retrieve (e.g., datastructure, dataflow, codelist, conceptscheme).
  • Query Parameter: agencyId (required, string) – Identifier for the agency maintaining the structure (e.g., IMF).
  • Query Parameter: references (optional, string) – Scope of referenced metadata to include (e.g., none, parents, children, all).
  • Query Parameter: detail (optional, string) – Level of detail to return (e.g., full, reference, allstubs).
  • Query Parameter: version (optional, string) – Version of the structure (default: latest).
  • Query Parameter: includeHistory (optional, boolean) – Whether to include historical versions (true/false).
Output
  • Successful: Returns structural metadata of the specified type, such as a list of all dataflows, codelists, or data structures provided by the agency.
  • Failure: Returns error responses for missing or invalid structure types, unknown agencies, or incorrect parameter values.
Workflow Example
  • Send a request with parameters: structureType=datastructure, agencyId=IMF.
  • Display all available data structures in a dropdown for users to select the appropriate one before retrieving data.

Workflow Creation with the Connector

Example Workflow: Dataset Explorer UI

Step 1: Select Metadata Type

  • Allow users to select the structure type (e.g., datastructure, dataflow, codelist) they want to browse.

Step 2: Retrieve Metadata Structure

  • Use get-structure-structuretype-agencyid to fetch metadata definitions maintained by IMF.

Step 3: Display Metadata Results

  • List the returned structures with their IDs, names, descriptions, and other properties for selection.

Step 4: Enable Dataflow Filtering or Preview

  • Allow users to view structure components like dimensions and code lists to guide data query construction.

Step 5: Use Structures in Query Builder

  • Incorporate selected structure metadata into query builders or dropdowns for easier time series selection.
